1 note

I saw you from a distance, and you did not meet my eye
perhaps you were aloof from me, and did not care to try
a chance encounter with someone who just might change your mind
because you always told yourself that you were not that kind

And yet I hovered close nearby, because I’ve often known
that first impressions made in haste one often will disown
and so though you ignored me, I would not go away
for you would learn, if nothing else, that I know how to stay

So life went on, you played your games, and never payed me heed
and since you never looked my way, could never see me bleed
into your world my presence you would never let intrude
my point of view was something you never ever viewed

The years went by and life escaped and soon you’d gotten old
and secrets that had burdened you were dying to be told
but all your friends were just like you and quickly turned away
so you buried the pain deep inside because that was your way

Then loneliness beset you and you began to find
that all the empty sights in life had made you rather blind
you gave me up so long ago without a single glance
and idly thought in your despair you’d wish a second chance

And in that moment you reached out, just as it had been planned
in tears and fears that wash your soul, you found my outstretched hand
I never left your side throughout your long and winding road
and with endless love to you my friend, I paid what had been owed

The others now do mock you because they see you’ve changed
and for my sake your life has now been rather rearranged
but what you were, and what you had, you know you’ll never miss
because with me within you is release from all of this

What you’ve done for the sake of one I feel compelled to warn
that the world you are a part of, may heap on you such scorn
but you’ll no longer notice much, what they say or do
for in my care you will be where such things don’t bother you

And when your time to leave this world comes along at last
You’ll look back along your track at chances you bypassed
and as you then look forward to a long eternity
you’ll find a heart within you that will always be with me
