We ran out of plates.
This is possibly the greatest photo on Tumblr.
This is possibly the most disrespectful photo on Tumblr. I am not saying that you have to agree with what the bible says, but to utilize that book ‘as a plate’ knowing what it means to people, is just plain disrespectful to religion.
This is possibly the most disrespectful photo on Tumblr. I am not saying that you have to agree with the fact that pizza is the most delicious thing ever, but to let it touch that book, knowing how many people misinterpret it as a reason to hate gays, is just plain disrespectful to pizza.
Ugghh…aside from my initial drooling for pizza, I have 3 1/2 things to say in response: 1. a) Regardless of what it says, or whether you agree with it, that book is a religious text. If someone had posted a picture of pizza on a Qur’an or Torah, I think the responses might be different. It’s simple a matter of respect for a religion. b) People can misinterpret anything if it serves their cause. Don’t shame my religious book just because some idiot has done a crappy literary analysis of the text. 2. If microwaved Styrofoam releases chemicals, then that faux-leather-plastic cover has GOT to be bad for the pizza. If anything, I would expect it would melt. Next time at least do paperback. 3. This is not the most disrespectful thing on Tumblr. Your both new here, aren’t you?

When President Obama announced he now supports same-sex marriage, he cited his Christian faith. Many other people cited their religion to disagree. Why is there such variation? Part of it has to do with how you read the text.
Maybe it’s just my schooling, I don’t know, but when I read this little intro blurb ^ about the article, my immediate response was rather colorful. Summed up, it was: “NO F****ING DUH!”, which I then realized was a bit harsh. I’m just angry that more people haven’t figured out how easy it is to read things into the text, and interpret it in various ways. I love NPR, and I get the way society has been told to look at the Bible, but that last sentence (in the blurb) was just about the most obvious statement that could be made. Next to me saying “In order to live, part of it has to do with how you eat and breath.”
Today the T.A. in my Old Testament class compared Mitt Romney to the wealthy population as described in Amos.
If you haven’t read Amos, let me tell you, that is not a kind comparison.
I’m not saying it might not be accurate…it’s just not kind.
And it also led to a series of awkward chuckles spreading around the classroom, and people looked around unsure if they could safely laugh at the comment without offending people. Everyone trying to read everyone’s political allegiance by their facial expression. I would wager that most of them secretly agreed with the comment to some extent, though.
However, it was still a rather bold comment. I guess as a T.A. he can get away with it.
